Founded in 1909 On the sacred land of Guru Gorakshnath, at the dawn of 20th century, a dream of launching a teaching cum residential institute occupied the minds of some intellectuals, among whom our mighty minded advocates played significant roles,As a result, Mahatma Gandhi Intermediate College,then the Gorakhpur High School Society, was founded on Jan 06, 1909. Our most revered and a well known citizen, Late Rai Bahadur Ram Garib Lal came forward and donated his about 15 acres of land for School premises, in 1911, the School Society was registered and in 1913, J. Hopes Simpson, the then District Magistrate, put the first foundation brick of the main building of the school, in 1948, the Gorakhpur High School and the Gorakhpur Society were respectively replaced by the Mahatma Gandhi Intermediate College and the National Educational Society, Gorakhpur. The College has a well equipped premises, constructed on old architecture, Presently, It has 7 thousand plus Students including Hindi and English both mediums of U.P. Board, from nooks and corners of U.P. and also abroad getting education here in different streams- Maths, Bio, Commerece and Computer with well equipped Labs.The M.G. Inter college has a glorious past.

On one hand, it has produced many scholars who are presently, serving the country with their never fading enlightenment, while on the other hand a number of our students have scored high ranks in the U.P. Board Examinations. One of the students of this college named M. Punit Tripathi topped the U.P. Board High School Examination in 1992. Through all the founding fathers and Pre Managing bodies along with their, the then Principals have left no stone unturned of the upliftment of the college. The able guidance of late Rai Bahadur Ram Narain Lal as a Manager (1946-1960) and Principal, Kunvar Bahadur at the time,Late Prakash Narain Srivastava as Manager(1972-1992) with Principal, Late Krishna Bihari Lal Srivastava have been proved Mile-stone in the History of the college and their co-working period(1972 to 1992) has been taken for granted as a Golden Era. In the period of 1992-2000, Sri Shobhit Narain Srivastava rendered his efforts as a manager for the progress of School. Since 2000, our foresighted Managder, Sri Mankeshwar Nath Pandey is continuously devoting his efforts with the Principal, Dr. Radhey Shyam Singh(26th June 1998 to 9th March 2016) and Presently, with the serving principal Shri Om Prakash Singh, to take the school to new heights.
